Opening Night Recap!

The weather was beautiful, the crowd was awesome and the talent was amazing!  For those that came, you know that the 'set list' was randomly chosen through some elaborate technology-based system:  all the contestants names were put in a bowl and the order the were drawn out determined the order in which they sang!

Our judges for the first night were Kenny Seale (the winner from the Southside Super Star competition that was held this past spring), Amy Trusedale-Hodges (Minister of Music from River Oak Church of God) and Brian Edwards (Pastor from Blessed Hope Baptist Church).  Bryant Shipton (Minister of Music from The Tabernacle) is our emcee.

The following is the list of contestants in the order they performed, the song they performed and the total score they got from the judges:
  1. Tequeita Swiney, "Say a Prayer"; (Score:  16)
  2. Antina Harris, "Just What He Said"; (Score:  26)
  3. Tonya Robertson, "Open My Heart"; (Score:  14)
  4. Meredith Sutton, "Not Guilty"; (Score:  23)
  5. Kayla Alverson, "I Will Not be Moved"; (Score:  17)
  6. John Wilt, "More than Wonderful"; (Score:  17)
  7. Joey Scott, "Jesus, Mesiah"; (Score:  15)
  8. Vision, "Somebody Touched Me"; (Score:  16)
  9. Kim Taylor, "God is My Refuge"; (Score:  20)
  10. Andrea Lipscomb, "His Eye is on the Sparrow"; (Score:  14)
  11. Breanna Caviness, "Stained Glass Masquerade"; (Score:  15)
  12. Dariann & Devon Robinson, "Free to be Me"; (Score: 26)
  13. Roger Eunice, "I Pledge Allegiance to the Lamb"; (Score:  16)
  14. Brandon Neal, "The Old Rugged Cross"; (Score: 30)
  15. Will Robinson, "Better than That", (Score:  19)
  16. Angel Cassell, "Don't Want to Go", (Score:  24)
  17. Tasha Dyer, "Alabaster Box", (Score:  25)
Melody Barrett, Patricia Cifers, & Phillip Cartright are contestants, but were unable to be there the first night.

PATHS would like to say a special "Thank You" to Moffett Memorial Baptist Church (http://www.moffettmemorial.org/) for sponsoring the food that was available at the consession booth!

Don't forget!  Next weeks show (September 18th) is also going to be at the Pavilion!

Be sure to check back over the next couple days -- we'll be posting an update with PATHS' progress in reaching its $20,000 goal!  We'll also be posting pictures from Opening Night!

  1. I think several of the contestants were effected by the poor sound system especially Joey Scott. I believe that the first round scores should be dropped and the contestants given another chance to better their scores.
